Baltimore named eighth best city for singles
Okay, let’s discuss this, everyone…
The criteria according to the Zillow blog:
- a large proportion of singles
- a high average income after rent for those singles
- a large number of possible date spots in the area.
Yes, Baltimore (and the Metro area) is filled with single people & lots of date spots! The disposable income is relative but our cost of living is much lower than other big cities in the region. Generally, people with a lot of disposable income, lots of options, and lots of places to go on dates aren’t in the “find the one” market. (People tend to marry later in large cities).
In addition, those living in blue states and those that are college educated get married later in life. Not to mention, a large proportion of singles may very well mean lots of people are choosing to stay single not awaiting marriage.
Unfortunately, it’s hard to get the stats on single people vs. people actually looking for serious relationships but for 7 of the 10 states mentioned in this list, the median age of first marriage above the nation’s average.
Now, would be a good time to mention that I did some stats predicting age of first marriage based on user inputted data…
So basically, Baltimore is an excellent city if you’d like to stay single. As a place for love & marriage, the jury is still out. The question is, is others looking for marriage a contingency for best place for singles or do you have your own criteria?
